Description

The spine has three main sections, cervical, thoracic, and lumbar. In addition, two fused vertebrae, the sacrum and the coccyx. The thoracolumbar spine (T1-L5) has two normal curvatures, lordotic in the lumbar region and kyphotic in the thoracic region. Postural kyphosis or Slouching posture is an excess curvature in the upper back. Several factors such as back muscles weakness, sitting and standing incorrectly and special conditions during juvenile puberty and growth can cause postural kyphosis. Also some vertebral fracture, disc degeneration and osteoporosis can cause this problem following aging. Sometimes kyphosis does not cause any symptoms, except abnormal appearing. However, in some cases the condition causes back pain and stiffness, tenderness of the spine and tiredness.
